What started as a 9-year-old’s way to stay occupied at his dad’s auto-parts business in East Los Angeles has become a national sensation. Caine Monroy built a low-tech arcade out of little more than old cardboard boxes, packing tape, and his considerable imagination. Business was slow — very slow — until a freelance film maker took note and created a video telling Caine’s story that went viral. Now Caine has more customers than he can handle and a college fund that’s topped $190,000, all based on donations. We can learn a thing or two from L.A.’s own “kid entrepreneur” as he talks with KPCC’s business and economics reporter, Matt DeBord, about building a business from scratch and what his accomplishment can teach us all. That’s Tuesday, May 15th, at 7pm at the Crawford Family Forum.
Guests:
Caine Monroy, creator, Caine’s Arcade
George Monroy, Caine's dad and owner of Smart Parts in East Los Angeles
