Description

Let's face the facts. In this digital age, the world is hooked on photography. We can't get enough of the thrill of sharing a beautiful Los Angeles sunset to Facebook or Twitter or the instant gratification as "Likes" pour in from friends and strangers. Conservative estimates put the number of photographs taken last year just shy of 400 billion images. Increasingly, those images are destined for Instagram.

When Facebook bought Instagram in April for $1 billion, the world's simplest app for photo sharing went from niche to mainstream in as long as it takes to add a vintage camera filter to a picture of your lunch. In six months, less than one million Instagram users ballooned to more than 11 million people posting pictures of their cats, their date night and that ubiquitous sunset.

How can you join the fun? Once you're there, how can you take better pictures and stand out from the masses on Instagram? What does the future hold for photography in a world where the photos keep coming faster and faster?

Join KPCC visual journalist Grant Slater for a user-friendly introduction to mobile photography and a discussion about the future of the medium with some of the best Instagrammers in Los Angeles. Plus, we'll have a very special surprise announcement.
