The primary election for the next mayor of Los Angeles is just a few months away. To help get you ballot-ready, KPCC host Austin Cross (he/him) is sitting down with the candidates for a series of one-on-one interviews. In these conversations, he’ll ask the candidates questions on the issues most important to Angelenos, based directly on what you tell us you want to know.

Karen Bass (she/her) has served in the U.S. Congress since 2011, currently representing the 37th District, which includes Mid City, Westwood, Exposition Park and Baldwin Hills. She is a former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. Bass served in the State Assembly from 2004-2010 and was elected Speaker in 2008, making her the first Black woman in U.S. history to lead a state legislative body. She founded the Community Coalition, a social justice organization, and the National Foster Youth Institute. She was born in L.A. and is 68 years old.
